Prof. Tongbeum Kim

Dr. Tongbeum Kim is a Professor in the College of Aerospace Engineering at the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), Nanjing, PR China whose research focuses on the growing concerns over sustainability, primarily through the thermal management of various energy systems including high pressure gas-turbines and sustainable/renewable energy generation and storage systems. Specific research interests cover (a) Aerodynamics & heat transfer in turbomachinery, (b) Thermal management of Lithium-Ion batteries for electric aerial/ground vehicles, and (c) Micro/Nano-fluidics for thermal management, energy conversion and power generation.

Dr. Kim obtained a PhD in Aerothermal Engineering from Whittle Laboratory at the University of Cambridge, UK after an MSc in Aerodynamics from the Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, and received numerous awards and recognition including a HTFS Best Paper Award from the 8th UK National Heat Transfer Conference (2003), an Outstanding Reviewer by the ASME Journal of Heat Transfer (2013), and a University Research Commercialization Support Initiative Award from the Innovation Hub, Gauteng Province of South Africa (2015).

Dr. Kim is also integral to Atkins Tech (PTY) LTD in providing world leading engineering expertise to serve customers.

International collaborator and sponsor

Dr. Tian Jian Lu

Professor Tian Jian Lu has been a long-lasting international collaborator with our company since its establishment in 2015. He also has financially sponsored a project on “the advancement of automotive vented brake discs with tailored lattice ligaments as a rotating impeller” with a success of more than 30% cooler operation proven by a series of laboratory and field tests, via the One-Belt-One-Road Initiatives, China (Grant number: DL20200010006).

Dr. Tian Jian Lu is a professor in College of Aerospace Engineering at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), China and holds jointly a professorship at the School of Aerospace Engineering in Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), China. Dr. Lu’s research focuses on challenges in mechanics of materials, noise and vibration, heat transfer, and biomechanics.

Dr. Lu received a BSc and an MSc in Applied Mechanics from XJTU, China and a PhD in Engineering Sciences from Harvard University, USA.

Dr. Lu is the founding director of both MIIT Key Laboratory of Multifunctional Lightweight Materials and Structures at NUAA and Biomedical Engineering and Biomechanics Center at XJTU. Dr. Lu was a chair professor of Materials Engineering at University of Cambridge, UK.
